When I was a child, my mother would take us up the highest mountain on our property to watch the sunrise.  She wanted us to learn how beautiful and important the sun was to all living things on the planet.

I think of this ritual when I photograph flowers in the early morning. I love catching the first light of the sun on the out stretching petals.  This gallery of flowers reminds me of the power of the sun, its rays of light, and the heat of summer…enjoy!
